    We offer a multitude of resources and services that give students and alumni the competitive edge. These services include:
    • One to one or small group career support sessions
    • Online Jobs Database utilized by over 1000 employers specifically seeking Sotheby’s Institute student and alumni talent
    • CV/Resume, Cover Letter and Portfolio reviews
    • Interview Preparation Assistance
    • Panel discussions, career talks by various art world professionals and workshops on job search skills
    • Talent Database
    • Networking support. We help students to make relevant contacts with alumni and others in the art world.

  • 4. Will Career Services find a job for me?

    Although Career Services does not perform job placement we do work closely with a large number of employers to market our student talents and help steer students and employers together for successful employment fits. Most importantly, we offer the tools and resources needed to help students develop their career pathways.
  • 5. How do I begin my job search?

    We encourage students to begin using Career Services resources early. Start by creating a CV or resume and getting this reviewed. Also join arts networking organizations and attend Career Service events such as panel discussions in order to network and meet professionals. Speak with art world experts, your academic advisor and Director of Career Services about potential career paths. An internship can be a great way to learn more about a career path and gain professional skills. Internship and job opportunities are regularly posted on College Central.
  • 6. How do I get a job at Sotheby’s auction house?

    Sotheby’s auction house gives Sotheby’s Institute of Art graduates the opportunity to apply for positions through internal postings before they are posted for the public. Each year auction house staff hold a careers seminar and also reviews resumes and conducts interviews for our students. Sotheby’s New York also sets aside several Floater (paid temp) positions especially for Sotheby’s Institute students. We work closely with Sotheby’s auction staff to market our student talents and to help meet their recruitment needs.
  • 7. I don’t know how to write a resume or cover letter.

    Career Services offers highly tailored resources including a guide on marketing yourself effectively that includes tips, samples and resources. Career guides are posted on the Student Portal and at www.collegecentral.com/sothebysinstitute.
  • 8. How do I find an internship?

    You can find an internship by attending internship fairs, applying to postings on the Sotheby’s Online Job Board, applying to companies directly, and asking your faculty advisor and Director of Career Services for suggestions of opportunities that meet your interests and needs.
  • 9. What is the Sotheby’s Institute Online Job board and how do I gain access to it?

    The Sotheby’s Institute Online Job Boards is a comprehensive online job database that includes over 30,000 registered employers. Over 1000 employers work regularly with Sotheby’s Institute in their search for student and graduate talent for jobs and internships. Students are given login details early in the first semester.
