Overview

Sotheby’s Institute of Art offers a multi-city bilingual executive education curriculum for private collectors and art professionals who wish to strengthen their knowledge of art, collecting strategies and arts management. Each module of the Global Art Markets, Collecting and Connoisseurship program consists of intensive week-long residencies in major art centres around the world. The program highlights key aspects of the art market and provides participants with invaluable insight, understanding of artistic and market trends, and legal frameworks within the context of each global marketplace. Lectures and guided visits are led by leading faculty and experts in the field, and each module provides a hands-on experience and an exposure to the inner-workings of the market as well as knowledge of art, and professional networks. In addition, the Executive Program offers privileged access to some of the world’s finest collections and works of art, private visits to studios, galleries and other institutions that define much of the art scene today. Alongside top practitioners in the field, participants can gain a deep understanding of the art world in each city visited.

The Asian Art Market: Japanese Art

This module introduces the history of Japanese art, its artistic traditions, and innovative practices by Japanese artists. With access to the special preview and events at Art Fair Tokyo, this program engages participants with industry players and renowned speakers in Japan to further understanding the current market trends of classical, Modern and contemporary art in East Asia. Guided by curators and experts, participants also visit some of the world's most important public and private collections in the heart of the city to enhance their knowledge in collecting Japanese art. This module is aligned with Art Fair Tokyo which will take place from 8 (VIP Preview), 9 to 11 March 2018.

  • Course Fees

    Course Fees

    The fee for each module is £6,500. The discounted fee for alumni is £6,200. This fee includes tuition, course materials, lunches, receptions, coffee breaks, transportation during the course and translation (English/Mandarin Chinese). Please note that travel, accommodation, visa fees, travel insurance and other personal expenses are not included. Accommodation can be provided at an additional cost.

    Executive Program Cancellation Policies: Written cancellations submitted 8 weeks in advance of the start date of the course will be eligible for 100% refund of the course fee only, less a 15% administration fee (up to £150). Cancellations made between 8 weeks and 4 weeks in advance of the course start date will incur a 15% administration fee (up to £150) and the balance of the course fee will be applicable to another Public Programmes course within one year. For any cancellations within 4 weeks of the start date of the course, no refunds or transfer of balance will be made.

    Should the course have to be cancelled, Sotheby’s Institute of Art will refund participants 100% of the course fee only. Other than refunding your course fee, the Institute accepts no liability for expenses or losses you or any third party may incur as a result of a programme’s cancellation.

    Should a participant miss a session, it is not possible to replace it with a future session on another course. While special rates or discounts cannot be combined, we are pleased to offer the best rate for which you are eligible. Participants are reminded that they are in a professional environment and need to act accordingly. If participants exhibit unacceptable conduct or behaviour, Sotheby’s Institute of Art reserves the right to ask the participant to discontinue the course without reimbursement of course fees.
