Overview

As Brexit gets underway, there is some uncertainty about its ultimate impact on the British art market. This evening discussion will consider essential issues which are critical to maintaining London’s competitiveness in the international arena: among them, import tax, artist re-sale rights, free movement of people and art, the Bank of England’s monetary policy, government funding, duty-free warehouse storage near an airport and potential decrease of regulations. The ongoing negotiations will significantly impact on the way in which art is traded in Great Britain and this evening is an opportunity to explore the risks and advantages of the various scenarios. The panel complements a three-day course, The Art of Collecting, led by Sotheby’s Institute of Art between 28th and 30th June, 2017.
