Previous speakers include: William Kentridge, Aleksandra Mir, Bedwyr Williams, Saskia Olde Wolbers, Iwona Blaswick and Victoria Miro.
This lecture will be a survey of Ikon's current program - one of the most international in the UK - demonstrating its relevance in the light of contemporary art practice and wider cultural concerns, whilst acknowledging local context. Since its founding in 1965, Ikon has been increasingly outward looking, as befits a city characterised by cultural diversity. Artists covered include Vanley Burke, Hurvin Anderson, Oliver Beer, Dan Flavin, Sheela Gowda, Sofia Hulten, Mahtab Hussain, Zilvinas Kempinas, Janet Mendelsohn, Nastio Mosquito, Sidney Nolan and Gillian Wearing.
