Join art + tech thought leaders from Artsy, Kickstarter, and Sotheby’s, to discuss the future of the art market and the role digital technology now plays in engaging new art audiences via the Internet and TV, cultivating international collectors, and crowdsourcing funds for arts initiatives at institutions, galleries, art fairs, and commercial companies worldwide. This panel will discuss how technology is shaping the way the masses engage with art, collect art, and support projects throughout the art world. The panel will be moderated by Christine Kuan, CEO and Director, Sotheby's Institute of Art-New York.

PANELISTS:

Daniel Doubrovkine, CTO, Artsy
Daniel Doubrovkine (aka dB.) is a seasoned entrepreneur, technologist, CTO at Artsy.net in New York, the largest online fine art marketplace and publication. Daniel graduated from University of Geneva in late 90s with a degree in Computer Science, and founded and sold Vestris Inc., an early stage technology start-up right after college. He joined Microsoft as Development Lead, was Director at Visible Path, then Architect and Development Manager at Application Security. Daniel is the creator and maintainer of many popular open-source projects and a lifetime artist.

Gavin Meng, Product Development Manager, Sotheby's
Gavin Meng leads the development of Sotheby's mobile and TV apps, online video experience, and the Sotheby's Museum Network, as well as investigations into the creation and implementation of new immersive user experiences with virtual reality, 360-degree video, and sub-second latency interactive streaming. He graduated from Georgetown University with degrees in Finance and Marketing.

Soraya Haas, VP of Operations, Kickstarter
Prior to joining Kickstarter, Soraya worked for Artsy, leading the Art Fairs team, and for IDEO, a global design consultancy. She holds an M.A. in Modern and Contemporary Art and the Market from Christie’s Education. Soraya leads the business operations in service of Kickstarter most public-facing team—Community Outreach—ensuring our work impacts our community and creators. The Community Outreach team is comprised of subject specialists representing categories such as Art, Performance, and Design, among others.

Christine Kuan, CEO and Director, Sotheby’s Institute of Art-New York
Christine Kuan is CEO of Sotheby’s Institute of Art and Director of Sotheby’s Institute of Art, New York. Prior to joining the Institute, Kuan was Chief Curator and Director of Strategic Partnerships at Artsy. She has also served as Chief Curatorial Officer at Artstor and Editor-in-Chief of Oxford Art Online/Grove Art Online at Oxford University Press. In addition, Kuan has worked at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and has taught at The University of Iowa, Peking University, and Rutgers University. Kuan holds an MFA from the University of Iowa Writer’s Workshop, and a BA from Rutgers University, She has lectured and published extensively on digital strategy, museum policy, and new technologies for the art world. Kuan sits on the History of Collecting Advisory Committee at the Frick Collection in New York. She was a visiting faculty member of Stanford University’s pilot program for Arts Leadership.
