In October 2022, Sotheby’s Institute welcomes 155 new graduate students to its London campus while Frieze London and Frieze Masters convenes over 280 galleries from 42 countries. A new partnership is announced between Frieze 91 and Sotheby’s Institute which will bring together Sotheby’s Institute graduate students in London and Frieze’s members-only program, Frieze 91.
With expanded access and entre to the professional art world and Frieze network, students in the Art Business program will be able to gain valuable connections, experiences, meet and discover emerging artists, as well as take advantage of full membership benefits. Additionally, Sotheby’s Institute will serve as an educational partner for Frieze 91 in the coming year, including hosting lectures for Frieze 91 members at the Institute’s private Bedford Square campus. Frieze 91 members will also be able to enrol in Sotheby’s Institute of Art courses online at a special membership rate.
The partnership, currently in a pilot phase, originated with Institute alumna Aryana Khan ‘14, who attended the Art Business graduate program in London after completing her undergraduate studies at Stanford University. After over six years working at Sotheby’s auction house in London, Aryana joined Frieze to launch and grow their new membership program, Frieze 91. Just as Aryana has shaped Frieze 91 to catalyse connections across industry insiders, artists, and collectors, this partnership is another way of forging connections and supporting the art world through the power of networks.
When Aryana first discussed the idea with David Bellingham, Program Director of the Art Business degree in London, she recognized that Sotheby’s Institute of Art and Frieze 91 were a natural fit. "I knew that a partnership of this scale was ambitious but worth aiming for because of its potential and impact within our industry. Ultimately, Frieze 91 is about creating and strengthening a sense of community around the arts and contemporary culture – to champion artists and creatives, particularly the next generation of talent. The Institute’s devotion to the study of art and its markets is second to none; the MA Art Business network is made up of smart, diverse, passionate individuals who I have no doubt will contribute to the arts in exciting ways’’ says Aryana.
This exciting new collaboration between Frieze 91 and the MA Art Business graduates will nurture passions and interests, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of the art ecosystem.
