Liza is a specialist in Nazi-era provenance research, restitution issues, and wider contested cultural heritage. She lectures in Markets, Laws, and Ethics on the MA Art Business programme at Sotheby’s Institute of Art-London. Liza holds a doctorate from the University of Sussex, where she was awarded the Alfred Bader PhD Scholarship in Modern Jewish History and Culture. Her thesis on the founding ‘documenta’ exhibition and its relationship with National Socialist’s “Degenerate Art” campaign won the Women in German Studies book prize and is currently in press with Peter Lang. Liza also holds an MA in Critical Writing in Art & Design from the Royal College of Art, together with a postgraduate certificate in Art Crime and Cultural Heritage Protection from the Association for Research into Crimes Against Art. Prior to joining Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Liza served as a Researcher to the Provenance Lab, Leuphana University, where she continues to work as an External Lecturer. She also worked as a Tutor and Lecturer at the University of Sussex, where she gained an Associate Fellowship (FHEA) in 2023. Alongside her teaching, Liza continues to freelance as an art critic, editor, and provenance researcher.
