Charles J. Burns

Charles Burns has been speaking at Sotheby's Institute since 1999 on topics like architecture and fine and decorative arts.

MA, Art History, Courtauld Institute of Art, London

Currently affiliated with the Newport Restoration Foundation in Newport, Rhode Island, Charles Burns' original thesis was on the American furniture collections of Doris Duke at the Whitehorne House Museum and he has maintained a specific interest in 18th-century Newport furniture since that date. Subsequent work has focused on the collecting aesthetic of the Vanderbilt family and art and society in Newport and New York during the Interwar Years. He was formerly the Associate Curator at the Preservation Society of Newport County for 26 years.
