Summer in London is a special time for lovers of art. It’s the season of London Art Week, Masterpiece Art Fair, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, as well as major auctions and countless exhibitions. If you are curious about this world, I’d like to invite you to join us at Sotheby’s Institute of Art.
We have been a leading center for the study of art and the art world for almost 50 years, and we are dedicated to inducting enthusiasts of all backgrounds and ages into the artistic treasure house that is London. We teach in both our 18th century premises in Bedford Square and on site: in galleries, museums, aristocratic houses, and art fairs.
The faculty I work with are forensic in their teaching of individual works of art, helping students to understand art objects through close encounters with them. But we are also macroscopic, analyzing the bigger picture that makes up the art market as well as the fascinating network of people and institutions that comprise it.
We are people people and we are student people. We are dedicated to equipping our students with the skills and understanding from which they can derive both pleasure and success.
I am proud to have seen many protagonists of today’s art world take their first career steps here. These alumni now work as curators, gallerists, professors, critics, auction house specialists, and art advisors. If you think you might like to join them, our summer courses in London are a great place to start: please do get in touch.
