Organised in collaboration with SOAS School of Arts, Sotheby's Institute of Art invites you to a talk with Zineb Sedira who will discuss her work Dreams Have No Titles with the curator Ekow Eshun.
About the artist
Born in France to an Algerian family, Zineb Sedira is based in London. She works across photography, installation and film, often drawing on the question of migration and people living between different cultures. Her work has been shown in numerous institutions. Her solo exhibition at Jeu de Paume in Paris (2019-20) was shortlisted for the 2021 Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize. Dreams Have No Titles received a special mention from the jury at the 2022 Venice Biennale. It will be presented at the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin this Spring and next in London, at the Whitechapel Gallery in February 2024.
About the discussant
Ekow Eshun is a British writer and curator. He is Chair of the Fourth Plinth Commissioning Group and former director of the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. He curated the critically acclaimed exhibition ‘In the Black Fantastic’ at the Hayward Gallery in 2022, and his documentary series White Mischief, on the history of whiteness, was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 2021. His memoir Black Gold of the Sun was nominated for the Orwell Prize in 2006 and he has written for publications including the New York Times, Financial Times, and The Guardian.
