The Sotheby’s Institute of Art Reimagining the Monument project commission Hope as an Act of Resistance – a sonic monument by Katriona Beales premieres at the Victoria and Albert Museum during Digital Design Weekend 2023.
We are delighted to announce our first ever ‘real world’ contemporary art commission, a monument for now, curated by MA students working with art-world experts. Hope as an Act of Resistance – a sonic monument is a participatory sound artwork by Katriona Beales. It will premiere at the Victoria and Albert Museum in September 2023. Katriona is building a sonic monument out of people’s whispered hopes, and everybody is invited to join in. None of the whispered contributions will be identifiable or directly audible. Rather the artist is creating an ASMR-inspired sound bath to enhance and celebrate collective well-being.
Please join us at the Victoria and Albert Museum to contribute to our monument. Hope as an Act of Resistance – a sonic monument is part of our extra-curricular Reimagining the Monument project where international students from across all four MA programmes have worked together to reconsider what and how we monumentalise in our culture. The exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum will be a part of Digital Design Weekend.
