In addition to the growing suite of courses offered to students on our campuses in NYC and London, Sotheby’s Institute of Art also creates custom courses for educational or cultural institutions with specific training needs.
Sotheby’s Institute of Art is delighted to be delivering a new suite of programs for our collaboration with Xia Jing Shan Arts and Culture Foundation, Taipei in 2022. The course “Luxury Business” will be led by Dr. Katie Hill, Program Director, MA Modern and Contemporary Asian Art, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London and Dr. Chung-Chieh Chao, CEO, Xia Jing Shan Arts and Culture Foundation, Taipei.
The Luxury sector is one of the fastest-growing areas of business evolving as a major category in the cultural world that bridges premium brands, art and high value lifestyle experiences reaching across different sectors.
This course is a comprehensive introduction to global luxury markets, aimed at giving students a clear and informative understanding of key topics such as the scope of and environment for the luxury market, and how it functions in areas of lifestyle, taste and special experiences; consumption of crafted luxury goods and their new presence within museum collections; placemaking, collecting and collaborations as well as an insight into prestigious cross-collecting art fairs. Held over four sessions, each class will give a thorough insight into the selected topic and the format allows students to interact with the lecturer through questions and discussion points.
The lectures will be delivered by leading experts in the field, and all presentations will be richly illustrated with images and case studies.
