Students in the Summer Institute pre-college program submit images captured during their studies with the winner's photograph published in Sotheby's quarterly magazine.

Each summer, hundreds of creative high school students who are curious and passionate about the arts join the Pre-College Summer Institute. From learning the intricacies of running galleries and museums to exploring painting and drawing techniques throughout history, these two-week courses are designed to engage, inspire, and fuel creativity.

All Summer Institute students chronicle their adventures and inspirations in a summer-long photography contest. The selections below are just a few of the standout snapshots summer students captured during their time exploring art and life in New York City.

Plus find out below who won the summer's Grand Prize, chosen by the contest judge and Sotheby's Head Photography specialist, Hermione L. Sharp. The lucky winner will be featured in an upcoming edition of Sotheby's magazine, sent to art collectors and organizations worldwide.

Grand Prize Winner: Sarah Karam
As commented by Hermione L. Sharp, "Sarah’s image jumped out at me right away because of its carefully thought-out composition and color scheme. I love the squares, rectangles, and triangles of the buildings against the rounded roof of the VW Beetle parked in front. It takes a good eye to notice these things, especially in a bustling city like New York!"
