Registration
Sotheby’s Institute of Art’s Online Premier Courses are open to individuals 18 years of age and older who hold a high school diploma or equivalent. These online courses award IACET Continuing Education Units for those who successfully complete their course (see section regarding Continuing Education Units below). These courses do not award transferrable university credits.
After students have registered online, they will receive an e-mail acknowledging that Sotheby’s Institute of Art (SIA) has received and accepted the registration. Submission of registration along with full tuition payment constitutes acknowledgement and acceptance of these terms and conditions.
SIA may not accept enrollment of any student from a jurisdiction wherein the provision of services to an individual in that country are prohibited.
Payment
Payment in full is required at the time of registration. Payment consists of a tuition fee and a non-refundable registration fee. All course tuition is billed in US dollars, and students' financial institutions may charge a fee for conversion to local currency. Payment may be made by credit card via American Express, MasterCard, or Visa, ACH bank transfer (for U.S. applicants), or Paypal.
ACH Payments (available only for U.S. applicants): Applicants will be registered once the bank transfer is initiated. If payment fails, students will be automatically removed from the course. Space in the course will not be held in the instance of a failed payment. SIA is not responsible for any additional fees charged by the student’s financial institution.
Sponsor Payments: Applicants will be registered in their chosen course and will receive an email acknowledging SIA has received and accepted the registration once a sponsor payment is submitted. Space in courses is not held while sponsor payment is pending. Sponsor payments and refunds are subject to the same Cancellation/Refund policies stated within these Terms and Conditions.
Refund Policy
In order to be granted a full tuition refund, students must cancel their registration by sending an email to online@sia.edu by 5:00 pm (EST, New York time) five full business days before the course start date. Please note SIA is unable to reimburse for any currency conversion or other fees charged by the credit-card issuer, financial institution, or payment service and refunds will be issued to the paying party. There will be no refunds given for students/sponsors who request a refund outside of these parameters.
Course Content
Sotheby's Institute of Art will make all reasonable efforts to deliver the course as outlined on the website. However, SIA reserves the right to make reasonable amendments to the content and syllabus of a course when necessary.
All courses are conducted in English, unless otherwise specified. Each Online Premier course has weekly short writing assignments in English as well as a final project; therefore, we recommend that students have a conversational knowledge of both spoken and written English when pursuing a Certificate of Completion. For any of the art writing courses, students need full proficiency in English.
Continuing Education Units
All SIA Online Premier courses issue IACET Continuing Education Units to students who successfully complete the course requirements outlined by the instructors in their course syllabi. A Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a recognized unit of measurement that is used in accredited continuing education programs as a record of educational accomplishments. One IACET CEU is defined as 10 contact hours of participation in an SIA Online Premier course. All course material has been thoroughly reviewed to ensure that the time spent in course participation results in the appropriate number of CEUs earned.
Technology and Access
To ensure students can successfully participate in a Sotheby's Institute of Art Online Premier course, they should review the technology requirements. It is the student's responsibility to obtain and to maintain the proper hardware and software required to participate.
For more information regarding technology requirements, please visit our How It Works page. Access to the Online Premier course may not be legal by certain persons or in certain countries. When accessing the Online Premier course and/or the Sotheby’s Institute of Art Website, you are responsible for compliance with the laws of your jurisdiction.
Course Cancellation
Sotheby's Institute of Art reserves the right to cancel courses when necessary due to unforeseeable circumstances or insufficient enrollment. In this instance, all tuition and fees paid for the course will be refunded to the paying party. Cancellation decisions are generally made one week before classes begin, though SIA reserves the right to cancel any class up to the first day. Students/sponsors should allow up to six weeks for the credit to appear on their statement.
Student Conduct
Students will be expected to follow guidelines and procedures outlined in the Student Handbook located within the SIA Online Premier Community Course and the Terms of Use for the learning management system, Canvas. The SIA Online Premier Community Course is made available two weeks before a course start date to enrolled students. Sotheby's Institute of Art reserves the right to remove any student from the course who does not respect these guidelines and/or fellow students, faculty, or staff.
