Sotheby’s Institute of Art is delighted to be partnering with art-book publishers Lund Humphries to co-publish 'Hot Topics in the Art World' a new series of short books debating the pressing issues of the international art world.
The new series Hot Topics in the Art World is being edited jointly by two of Sotheby’s Institute’s London faculty: Jeffrey Boloten, Course Leader for the Art and Business Program, and Juliet Hacking, Program Director for the MA in Contemporary Art. It will be launched in Autumn 2021 with Capturing Culture: The Rise of the Private Museum by Georgina Adam, art-market journalist and author of bestselling books Big Bucks and Dark Side of the Boom, and Curating Art Now: Changed Worlds, Uncertain Futures by Lilian Cameron, Course Leader for Art Museums, Galleries and Curating at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London.
Jonathan Woolfson, Director of Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London, said:
“I am delighted that the Institute is able to continue its collaboration with Lund Humphries in the joint enterprise of bringing art-world thought leadership to a wide audience. Particularly in this period of uncertainty and change, the Hot Topics series promises readers a first sight of new directions in an impressive range of art-related sectors. We are excited to be working on this project with a fabulous line-up of experts and professionals.”
The series will give wider visibility to some critical areas of professional art-world practice, considering: what are the disruptors challenging the status quo, and how is the art world likely to be transformed over the next decades as a result? Subjects in development include the future of the art fair; contemporary art, soft power and social change in Saudi Arabia; arts censorship and the new culture wars; corporate sponsorship and the arts; and art and tech. The Series Editors are working in consultation with a high-profile international advisory board that includes Jos Hackforth-Jones, former CEO and Director of Sotheby’s Institute of Art,to recruit leading experts, scholars and commentators to write for the series.
The Institute’s new partnership with Lund Humphries is the latest chapter in a longstanding publishing collaboration between the two organisations dating back to 2009. Previous co-publications include the successful series of professional Handbooks in International Art Business, featuring Juliet Hacking’s own book Photography and the Art Market and the forthcoming volume The Valuation of Fine Art and Design by New York faculty Ann-Marie Richard, to be published in September 2021.
