Future Trends in the Art Market

Future Trends in the Art Market provides students with an educated look into the future of the international art market, a global business of about $60 billion that has seen an enormous influx of capital and participation on an unprecedented level in the past two decades.

Taught by Lindsay Dewar, Chief Operating Officer and Head of Analytics for the London-based art industry research firm ArtTactic, alongside guest speakers from the art world, the course will include industry-changing case studies and share expert predictions for the future of the international art market.

The course will be divided into three main sections, starting with a fundamental overview of the art market pre- and post-Covid pandemic, exploring how this past informs the future of the market. The course will further look at hyped artists and mega collectors and how the impact of those key players is shaping the future of selling and buying art. In the last part, the focus will be on brand new technology and an ever-increasing role of financial vehicles in the greater art world, explained through the use of industry-wide data sets. By focusing on these areas and looking at key trends, course participants will be given the tools to assess what areas will become those to watch for the future and how market performance can be forecast.

Course highlights:

The Art Industry Anno 2024: An opening session dedicated to exploring the latest trends and future directions, setting the stage for in-depth sector analysis.

Art & Technology: Focusing on new applications to watch out for, this session will explore how technology has and will further reshape the art industry.

Art & Finance: Looking at the intersection of art and finance, art as an asset class will be examined in-depth, considering financial tools employed in the art industry of today and tomorrow.

Art & Artists: How geographical locations, medium, education and methods of production are influencing artists’ careers and trends in the contemporary art market.

Art & Collectors: With the historical transfer of wealth taking place amongst generations, the demographic of collectors is changing fast, this influences the ways in which they purchase art and the overall future of the art market.
