As the landscape for art expands, the contemporary art market’s unprecedented growth calls for a more in-depth look at the central role of the gallery. This course explores the high stakes world of art galleries, integrating real-world examples with critical thinking around topics that shape the gallery business. Running a Contemporary Gallery equips those considering a career in the field with practical knowledge of the day-to-day functioning and the strategic operations of a gallery, including managing artists and clients, preparing for and participating in art fairs, negotiating relationships with other players in the art market, and marketing through online channels.

This Premier Online Course features weekly recorded lectures and faculty-guided discussion boards to maximize flexibility and deliver an engaging and interactive digital experience.

    Faculty / 교수진

    Mitra Khorasheh is a Canadian curator, writer and educator based in New York. She is the founder and curator of signs and symbols, a contemporary art gallery in the LES focused on time-based media. Prior to opening the gallery in 2018, as an independent curator she organized exhibitions and performances at galleries, institutions, art fairs and nonprofits as well as large-scale public art installations in the United States and internationally. Her curatorial work has primarily focused on site-specific and performative practices, with an emphasis on the body in performance, painting and other time-based media. One of her most noted curatorial endeavors was the 2016 site-specific installation and performance by ULAY, marking ULAY’s first New York performance in 30 years.
     
    Mitra Khorasheh 미트라 코라셰 교수는 캐나다 출신의 뉴욕을 기반으로 하는 큐레이터, 작가, 그리고 교육자입니다. 로워 이스트 사이드(LES)에 위치한 현대 미술 갤러리 Signs & Symbols'사인즈 앤 심볼스'의 창립자이자 큐레이터로 활동하고 있습니다. 2018년 갤러리 런전에는 독립적인 큐레이터로 활동하여 미국과 국제적으로 갤러리, 기관, 아트 페어, 비영리 단체에서의 전시와 퍼포먼스를 계획했으며, 대규모의 공공 미술 설치 프로젝트도 수행했습니다. 큐레이터 프로젝트는 주로 현장 특정과 퍼포머티브 아트에 중점을 두고 있으며, 특히 공연, 회화, 그리고 다양한 시간 기반 미디어에서의 몸의 역할에 주목하고 있습니다. 그 중에서도 2016년에 ULAY와 함께 진행한 현장 특정 설치와 퍼포먼스는 특히 주목받았으며, 이 작업은ULAY가 30년 만에 뉴욕에서 선보이는 특별한 공연으로 기억되고 있습니다.
