On September 6, Sotheby’s Institute of Art will host a special event in collaboration with the fair, The Future of Art Collecting - An Evening with Sotheby’s Institute of Art.

As the 2024 educational partner for VOLTA, Sotheby’s Institute of Art are working together with the fair to provide illuminating educational opportunities.

On September 6, Sotheby’s Institute of Art will host a special evening event at VOLTA New York to celebrate the city’s contemporary art and culture scene and create an opportunity for the public to participate in conversations around the future of art within the context of a rapidly changing and evolving era of art collecting. This thought-provoking evening will feature a panel discussion with representatives spanning from Sotheby’s Auction House to emerging gallerists. Set to a backdrop of New York-based performance artists including Ellen Frances and Joanne McFarland, the evening is a celebration of New York’s contemporary arts and culture scene. 

6:30pm – In Conversation - Reaching Across: New Ways of Art Dealing  

A panel discussion with VOLTA Artistic Director, Lee Cavaliere; Sotheby’s Auction House, Head of ‘The Now’ Evening Sale and Contemporary Sales, Lucius Elliott; VOLTA Advisory Board Member and Art Advisor, Rob Fields and Maryana Kaliner, FORMAH Gallery Director.  

Moderation by Tim Goossens, Director of Academics and Content, and Faculty at Sotheby’s Institute of Art.

5pm Performances begin

Performances by multi disciplinary artist Ellen Frances, represented by Tonnheim Gallery, will take place. Merging painting, poetry, movement and sound, step into the world that she creates in her unique and beautiful performance. As featured in New York Times and Art Observed.

Poetry readings by JoAnne McFarland represented by Accola Griefen Fine Art.
