Join us at Sotheby’s Institute of Art for this exciting talk with artist Caragh Thuring and Jennifer Higgie. This event is part of a series of talks organised by the MA in Contemporary Art.

We are delighted to announce that this talk is organized on the occasion of Caragh Thuring’s exhibition at Thomas Dane Gallery in London (5 June – 19 September 2026). Please see the full exhibition information here.

This conversation will be followed by a drinks reception.

The event is free to attend but you must register for a ticket.

About the artist:

Caragh Thuring works with painting, drawing, weaving and photography. She builds and arranges layered imagery in opposition to traditional visual and logical hierarchies. Thuring paints the overlooked and the out of sight, curious about what lies beneath the surface. Filtering landscape, people, places, boundaries and territories, she interweaves the technological and human. Volcanoes, submarines and bricks appear viscerally or bodily whilst emphasising the clash between the natural and the manufactured.

Caragh Thuring was born in Brussels, Belgium in 1972 and lives and works in London and Argyll. She studied BA Hons in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University from 1991-1995 and is currently a Trustee at Nottingham Contemporary. She was appointed a Royal Academician in 2024 and has works in the collections of Tate, Hepworth Wakefield, Royal Academy, Government Art Collection and Buffalo AKG Art Museum.

About the interviewer:

Jennifer Higgie is an Australian writer and former editor of frieze magazine who lives in London. Her novel Bedlam will be published in July by Verso. Her recent books include The Other Side: A Story of Women, Art and the Spirit World (2023) and The Mirror and the Palette: Rebellion, Revolution and Resilience: 500 Years of Women’s Self-portraits (2021).

She has also written and illustrated a children’s book, There’s Not One, and written screenplays. Jennifer was the host of the frieze podcast, Bow Down: Women in Art History, and is currently the host of the National Gallery of Australia’s podcast, Artist’s Artists.
