Sotheby’s Summer Institute is a pre-college program for high schoolers who are passionate about arts and culture and want to immerse themselves in one of the most vibrant cultural capitals in the world: New York City.

From learning the intricacies of the global art market to exploring the artists and movements which have shaped art history, our two-week summer program for teenagers are designed to engage, inspire, and fuel creativity. Taught by leading scholars and professionals in the art world, each course draws on the global expertise of Sotheby’s Institute of Art and takes students behind the scenes of world class museums, galleries, auction houses, artists’ studios, and more. As one of the best pre-college programs for art and luxury career exploration, Summer Institute brings students into the heart of the industry, preparing them for future study in the creative industries.

New York Is Your Classroom

With New York City as your campus, you will have access to all that the city has to offer, including famous museums, galleries, auction houses, and artists’ studios, in addition to iconic landmarks and neighborhoods.

Specialized Subject Areas

Explore the transformation of art over the years, the markets in which it is sold, and its union with luxury and fashion through the study of art history, art business, and global luxury markets.

Engaging and Interactive Courses

Summer Institute is designed for students who are eager to engage with the art world. From examining case studies with art experts to working on industry projects, you will have the opportunity to experience the art world firsthand and develop a strong foundation for your future studies.

Program Duration

Two-week courses are offered in two separate terms: July 5-17 and July 19-31. Students may enroll in more than one term. See the summer schedule for more information.

Eligibility

The program is open to rising high school students (grades 10-12) and graduating seniors. Students must be 15 years old by the first day of the program.

Admissions

Requires the completion of an online application and submission of supplementary materials. Learn more about our application and admissions process.

Accommodations

Students live in residence hall facilities in the heart of New York City.

Dining

Dining halls are able to accommodate a range of dietary restrictions.

Tuition

$6,195 for Day students, $7,695 for Residential students. Tuition is based on 2-week course. Refer a friend and you’ll both receive $250 off tuition. (Additional fees apply.)
