Collecting Contemporary Art: Markets and Practice is a five-day immersive course in London designed for collectors and art enthusiasts seeking to deepen their understanding of today’s contemporary art world.

Through studio visits, gallery visits, and conversations with artists, collectors, advisors, and gallerists, participants gain first-hand insight into how contemporary art is created, exhibited, discussed, and brought into collections.

Focusing on the relationship between artistic practice and the market, the course explores how artists build careers, how galleries champion and place works, and how value emerges within the contemporary art ecosystem.

Participants will develop the critical frameworks needed to navigate London’s gallery landscape, discover artists with confidence, and cultivate a personal collecting perspective informed by both cultural and market considerations.

Through lectures, discussions, and site-based learning, the programme examines the structures that shape the contemporary art market, from commercial galleries and art fairs to collectors, institutions, and advisors.

Alongside practical insights into navigating these networks, participants will consider the broader role of collectors in supporting artistic practice and contributing to the cultural life of contemporary art. By the end of the course, participants will have developed a deeper understanding of contemporary artistic practice, the dynamics of the primary art market, and the principles that underpin thoughtful and informed collecting.

Whether beginning a collection or refining an existing one, they will leave with greater confidence in articulating their collecting interests and engaging meaningfully with the contemporary art world.

Students who complete this course are eligible to receive a partial tuition fee waiver equivalent to $2,000 USD if they subsequently enroll in one of our Master’s Degree Programs at our New York, London, or Online locations (pending application and acceptance to the Master’s Degree program).
